Everything Everywhere All at Once

We went to see the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. Erika caught wind of it because she stays in the know with certain film buff circles online, and this one was getting a lot of pre-release hype. I went into it almost 100% blind like I prefer to do, but she stayed pretty in-the-dark as well to maximize the impact. But actually first I'll add that our new friend Cain brought up wanting to see the movie before we even told him we were preparing to see it, so it became a plan of "the more the merrier" at that point. Which then became especially true after Cain invited Courtney and she invited a whole wad of people she knew, bringing our total to a solid 10 before the big day.

We went to Taaza for drinks and appetizers since the movie was playing at the Grandin right around the corner from it. We actually got lucky that the Grandin had it because it was only out on limited release at that point. We were warned ahead of time by Cain and Courtney that one of the guests, Crissy, is a lot to handle. They were vague, but basically made it sound like there's a good chance she'll have some problem to confront us with at some point during the evening. We weren't excited to hear there was a drama queen in attendance since we don't love people who start quarrels, but it turned out (at least in this particular setting) that her real issue is that she just cries all the time over virtually nothing. It was actually kind of funny to see. She started to cry at Taaza over something about someone not paying her 5 dollars over a bet they had; she cried uncontrollably during the later part of the movie but luckily we (purposefully) sat far enough away from her that it was only the louder snorts that we could hear; and since she was all worked up by the movie she also started crying when she saw someone she knew afterward in the lobby. I'm not sure how anyone could handle being a partner with someone who has such unstable emotions, but she had her husband Ben there and he seemed like a normal enough guy. Just another case of "it takes all kinds" where just because we can't picture someone's life doesn't mean it isn't perfectly fine for them. But all the same, we ended up breaking off from most of that group after the show and going with Cain and 2 of his friends, Alex and Anderson (Andy) to the infamous 2 Chill for cocktails.

Oh but about the movie, it was pretty amazing. I won't spoil anything, but it's quite genre-less in its thematic elements, so you never know what is going to be thrown at you next. The guys who made it definitely aren't afraid to get goofy, absurd, or even sappy at times, but they somehow balance it out with enough realism and heavy topics to get something quite unique, to say the least.
