Pigs & Pupusas

First thing in the morning, we went to the RND Coffee House (RND stands for "Roasters Next Door") in the town of Vinton. We were in Vinton because we decided to go walk a "greenway" path which, if I haven't explained it before, in the South there are what are called greenways and it basically means a public path. So think of a park except one that runs along a long winding path. It is city-made, and very nice for taking a stroll. Anyway, we walked the Wolf Creek Greenway.

It started off with a low, dirty tunnel that we crouched to get through. Early on, Erika spotted something walking in a nearby baseball field. We had no idea what kind of animal it was. After a bit of observation, we came to the conclusion that it was a ground hog! And a huge one at that! Brian hopped the fence to the ballpark, much to Erika's disapproval and got closer to the groundhog. Naturally, it ran straight into its hole never to be seen again.

Further along the greenway, and the main reason we decided to walk it in the first place, were some farm animals. Donkeys, a horse, and a couple of mini horses were all there to greet us. Well, not exactly. None of the animals would come up to us, which was a bummer. Once we were starting to walk away from the farm area, Erika spotted two huge pigs laying on the ground next to the fence. She went to pet them and they hardly moved a muscle. The only time they moved at all was to scoot onto their back so she could give them a better belly rub. we saw lots of lovely little birds and plenty of squirrels fighting over nuts they found on the ground.

We finished our 4 mile walk on the greenway and were properly tired. We excitedly drove to a restaurant we hadn't tried yet called The Veganaire. We got a mushroom pasta dish that was kind of like a stroganoff and a mushroom mac n cheese that was INSANE. We decided we have to go back there just for that mac n cheese. The owner actually took a picture of us when we ordered our food. It was a new restaurant and we think he just wanted to share some customer appreciation photos.

We drove through a creepy neighborhood on our way home where all of the houses looked identical. Erika made us El Salvadorian pupusas (bean and cheese) along with the curtido (cabbage slaw) that goes with it. Brian picked us up some to-go margaritas from Tuco's Taqueria Garaje around the corner.
