The Citadel
Sep 28, 2022 | Quebec City, QC
Quebec is a very old city, founded in 1608. As mentioned before it has fortification walls the run around the "old city" which is the core of what is now the tourist part of town where we live. There is also a citadel that served as the military outpost for the city's defenses. We knew that it existed but figured we'd just kind of stumble upon it during one of our walk-arounds rather than try to specifically seek it out. And that's what happened today.
Personally I was completely surprised by how it looks. I thought it would be a normal building above ground. Made of stone, sure, but still a building of the kind I normally picture. But it was actually more of an underground type structure. I mean, plenty of it did rise above the ground, but then the ground still went on top of it anyway. I'm doing a bad job of explaining it, but that's why there's pictures! We didn't pay to go inside today, but I assume we'll make it in there before we leave.

Found the placards explaining the weather vanes we saw a few days ago. The words are pretty marred and I haven't translated it yet

The perspective of the photos from here are really weird. You can see the side view of this stone a few photos back and it looks much steeper and taller from the side than looking down.

Pretty nice view of the city, and the clouds coming in

Just during the time we were up here you can see the rain start to pull down from the clouds in the distance. We cut our little picnic short when some big drops started falling on us.
