Classical by Candlelight
Sep 16, 2022 | Montreal, QC
We got tickets to a "Candlelight" show, which is a series of concerts they put on around the world. I think usually it's classical music played in cathedrals, and that's exactly what ours was. It was a single pianist playing a few different pieces by Beethoven among a swath of (artificial) candles.
It was cool but the acoustics weren't exactly what we were expecting. I'm not sure if he was reserved in his playing or if it was just the structure of the building, but the sound wasn't exactly enveloping. Also we both suffered from a similar condition that we have experienced in the past with classical music shows: zoning out. We both do enjoy classical music, but it can be hard to take in a bunch of it all at once, especially if it's a piece we're not familiar with.

Another example of Montreal's "3D signs" (as I call them). This was on a restaurant called "Frits Alors" which means "messy fries", which is an apt name for poutine.

We walked to the show because it was only 25 mins away, and often it's worth it to walk rather than move the car and have to find parking both at the event and near our place when we come back. Anything under half an hour for walking doesn't really bother us much here anyway because there is always so much to see along the way. And half of this walk was through a very large park near us called Parc Fontaine which is very beautiful (and has more squirrels than you can possibly imagine.)

After the show we walked around for a bit not knowing exactly where we wanted to spend the evening, but then remembered that there were still 2 places by our house that had been on our list forever.

"Baka" means idiot in Japanese, so we always laugh at this place Baka Tattoo. I don't think they're trying to offend their customer base, it's just kind of an ironic self-deprecating inside joke. The word baka crops up very frequently in anime and other Japanese media because there are basically no other synonyms for it in Japanese. In effect it means not only "idiot" but also "dumbass", "moron", "stupid", "dipshit" etc etc. So people who are at all familiar with Japanese culture know this word well.

Le Blossom with its unique cherry blossom tree table. Also the bar was fun with its meandering geometrical shape

After Le Blossom we went to Bar Mineral, which employed a fog machine and shifting colored lighting for its unique vibe.
