Daytona Christmas Parade

Dec 11, 2021 | Daytona Beach, FL

We hung out on Beach St in the morning, which is the road that runs parallel to the water but on the mainland side. That might sound confusing so let me elaborate: Daytona Beach Shores (where we lived) is detached from the mainland. It's like a beach strip that runs all along the coast, but you have to take bridges across a canal of sorts that separates the shores from the mainland. So once again, Beach St runs parallel to that canal, but on the mainland side of the canal.

We ate at Dancing Avocado Kitchen and Erika was able to get a vegan version of chicken & waffles. In the evening we went out to see the Christmas parade. We knew it was going to be kind of hokey now that we more fully understand DB's very traditional all-American culture, but that basically made it an unmissable event. However, there wasn't anything too out of pocket that happened. Just a lot of local businessmen advertising their services and a bunch of kids' groups (gymnastics, dance, band etc.) Probably the groups that stood out the most to us were the 2 or 3 mostly African American dance troupes that marched through. Those girls were dancing in a way that seemed like it would boil the blood of your average Daytonan, and we salute them for it.
