Aaron Weekend
Nov 18, 2021 | Austin, TX
After we picked him up from the airport we went to South Congress and had Mexican food at Guero’s Taco bar. Then we went over to the Rainey Street area and had drinks at a tiki spot we had been to once before called Anthem. Aaron told us a story about how he had been seeing a girl recently but that all came to an end when he went to a party with her and all she wanted was the attention of every man in the room, because "that's just how women are, right?" This was the beginning of a trend that lasted the entire trip where Aaron spewed vitriol about every chance he got.
We headed over to meet up at Licha’s Cantina with some friends of Aarons named Alex and Vidya. We went back to A&V’s house and Alex asked if anyone wanted to rappel off his third floor balcony with his climbing gear and Brian volunteered.
Afterward Alex, Aaron, Brian and Erika went to downtown 6th street to “Friends” bar and watched a blues performance by a skinny little white dude in tiny cutoff shorts named Paul Val. He was actually amazing at guitar and had a good blues singing voice to boot. Everyone was a fan of Paul Val. We then went to a couple bars in the "gay" area called the Coconut Club and Neon Grotto. Despite having very different themes (CC was tropical and NG was full of neon lights), they were connected to each other and thus you could get into both with only one cover charge. They weren't particularly packed but there was a DJ on the roof at the Coconut Club so we danced and looked at the stars. That night was a lunar eclipse, and I can't remember if it had started at this point yet or not, but we were on the lookout. At the Neon Club we dance inside but there wasn't a lot of room for it.
When we got home it was around 2am and the eclipse was in full swing. We stood out in front of our house and watched it a while before heading in to go to bed.
