Erika the Homecook

Over the course of our travels our roles and responsibilities within our partnership have evolved quite a bit. We started off not really knowing how much structure would be required to sustain us, but found out that the answer is: quite a bit. Since it's not always easy and convenient for Erika to find a new job every month as we move around, we have developed a system where I pay Erika a certain amount of money to keep our household running each day while I work on my computer for my regular steady job for Dennis (Flannel LLC) in Cotati. It's kind of funny that we ended up reverting to such a traditional male-female partnership role system and yet I'm sitting here presenting it as something that is new or unique. But I suppose it makes a lot of sense that the "woman homemaker, man breadwinner" setup became favorable for us. Just like in the olden days when there weren't a lot of opportunities for women, we find ourselves in that same position but for other reasons. So in the specifics of our current situation, it made sense to adopt it for the time being.
Anyway, all I was try to put down here is that Erika has been a great cook for years, but somehow really started to break into another level of skill since we've been away. The meals she makes are so consistently tasty and interesting, and she has no trouble improvising her own recipes based on whatever is at hand. I decided that I need to start capturing these meals more often, if only so that I can remind her to repeat some of these bomb meals. These pics actually turned out terrible because my camera refused to focus on the tofu, but I promise to do better. I present thee with: spicy udon with fried tofu.
