NYS Museum Part II

Jul 30, 2022 | Albany, NY

The first time we hit this museum it proved to be too immense for one day. But we returned to finish it off.

We walked around around the block a bit, and due to the eye-catching nature of their humongous minotaur artwork, we stumbled upon Bull and Bee Meadery. We had actually already tried their mead at a farmer's market that we accidentally found on one of our first days here. So I guess we were always meant to stumble into their presence.

We're usually not super into mead, but for some reason we like the way they make it here. We had a winter spice one, and anise one, an oaky (think bourbon) one, and a fruity strawberry banana one. They were all very good.

After going back home for a bit Erika did some research on outdoors spots and wanted to go back out when she found this one. It was kind of a weird place because it was tucked into a kind of semi-rural upper-class neighborhood. There were also mosquitoes, so we kinda power walked this one. We both got a bite or two, but they turned out to be of a small non-itchy variety for both of us. Quite the opposite from the monsters I got in Texas.

Since we were already North of town we decided to hang out in Troy for the evening. Troy has such a different vibe than Albany that it's a nice change of pace. It has a more focused culture and feels a bit more educated. Makes sense that a smaller town can create more precise image for itself, I suppose.

We had drinks and a small dinner-snack at Troy Beer Garden (which was very different than we expected it to be based on the name) and then went over to Bard and Baker for some board games and more drinks. But either we were not in the head space for complex games or we were accidentally picking out really intense games, because we ended up putting back like 4 or more games after getting part way into the rules.
