Our host Shawn dropped by randomly today because we had been complaining about a bad smell coming through the AC. He claimed he couldn't smell it, and it was hard for us to refute him on it because we can't smell it either when we've been saturated in it all night long. So I told him maybe it's not as strong in the morning and I'd let him know if it got worse. But come like 5 o'clock we could tell the smell was kicking up a notch, so I texted him to let him know it might be the heat or humidity of the late day that brings it on. But in almost movie-level fashion where the protagonists seem untrustworthy due to coincidences, he dropped by again while we were baking a pizza, and claimed he couldn't smell it still. We could definitely smell it, but we knew what to "look for" in the smell. He was probably getting thrown off by the scent of our delicious homemade pizza. So once again I had to hear about how he lives across town and is recovering from surgery, and just sent him on his way with a "sorry".

Head Over Heels Plays
Washington Park (Albany) Park Playhouse

In the evening we went over to Washington Park to see the musical Head Over Heels which is based on a prose work from 1593 by Sir Philip Sydney called The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia. However it was much transformed from the original. They kept all the old-timey English but edited it to add in some modern jokes and cultural themes, and then also added in a bunch of musical numbers based on songs from The Gogos and Belinda Carlisle. They also had a carnival aesthetic for the backdrop and props, which we never really understood because it didn't play into the plot whatsoever.

All this went down at the Park Playhouse in the center of the park, where they perform summer plays almost every night Tue - Sat, which is pretty impressive. They advertised as having limited free seating "in the grass" so we bought a ticket. But it turned out that it was more like amphitheater steps and there were definitely plenty of them, so if we come back I think we may go free rather than pay $35 each. But that's not to say the play wasn't good. It wasn't the best thing we've seen on the road but it wasn't shabby. We'll probably be back to see them perform The Wedding Singer when they switch to that performance in August. But we'll probably view it from the grass!
