Nipperfest 2022
Jul 23, 2022 | Albany, NY
We had seen a poster for "Nipperfest" when we were at a Farmer's Market in Troy a week or so ago, and it seemed like a no-brainer event to add to the calendar given that it appeared fairly well-organized (and free!).
It went on from 10am - 8pm, but we arrived pretty late in the day because we knew there was no way were going to be hanging around for more than a couple hours in the 96°F humid heat. First we grabbed beers from the Frog Alley Brewing tent and got a seat in the amphitheater seating to watch "Super 400" on the main stage. They were like a 70's psychedelic rock jam band type of outfit. But that kind of music only holds our attention for so long, and since we hadn't eaten dinner yet, we went for a stroll through the food truck area. It wasn't a fabulous selection and especially there weren't many vegan options, so we ended up with chili cheese tots (me) and plain ol' tots (Erika).
We watched Super 400 for a bit longer but the gnats were really being a pest out in the grassy area where we were sitting, so after we finished our food and beer we went over to the second stage, which was really just a big picnic area with an overhead roof. There we watched Sawyer Fredericks, which we had already heard about because Erika's dad was telling us to go see him perform. Apparently he was the winner of one of the seasons of The Voice. So we watched him and yeah he seems like a talented young lad. Playing Americana "slap the guitar for percussion while you play" type of stuff.

Here's our extravagant dinner. The beers were surprisingly cheap for a music event ($7 for local microbrew). Maybe because this was the first year and they were trying to make the event popular to keep it running. We got a mango sour and a pilsner. The pilsner was standard/good. No funny business like loading it with hops or whatever. The sour was one of those people-pleaser sours that taste more like sour candy than beer, but no complaints here on a hot festival day.
